The Need: Safety Compliance for a Large-Scale Public Building
The security manager for the Toulouse Education Authority (Rectorat de Toulouse) reached out to ae&t to modernize their emergency protocols. The objective was to deploy a robust alert system to manage “Major Risks” and potential threats, in full accordance with the Lockdown and Emergency Preparedness Plan (PPMS).
The headquarters covers a massive 15,000 m² across 7 floors—including basements—and accommodates over 950 staff members daily. The primary challenge was to ensure that a clear, synchronized alert could reach every individual on-site instantly, regardless of their location within the complex.
The Solution: SmartVOX® Wireless Voice Technology
Comprehensive Site Coverage
Following rigorous on-site acoustic testing, 24 SmartVOX® voice sounders and 4 wireless activation units were strategically positioned. This configuration ensures that voice instructions remain perfectly intelligible even in high-traffic areas or underground levels.
Multi-Scenario Capability & LoRa Connectivity
The system is pre-programmed to handle diverse emergencies, including active threats, intrusions, and natural or industrial disasters. Each scenario triggers a specific vocal message, guiding staff toward either Shelter-in-Place (Lockdown) or Evacuation.
By utilizing LoRa radio communication, the system operates entirely without inter-unit wiring. This wireless approach significantly reduced installation costs and minimized disruption to the daily administrative operations during setup.
The Result: A Turnkey, Scalable Safety Network
Commissioned and fine-tuned by an ae&t technical project manager, the final installation provides total peace of mind for the Rectorat.
The SmartVOX® solution was praised for its user-friendly interface and crystal-clear audio performance. The Toulouse Education Authority now benefits from a high-performance safety network that is fully compliant with national school security and lockdown standards, ensuring the protection of all personnel across the site.
